Last week Studio Bionic participated in NCCER’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer charity bake sale. We baked, designed, and packaged, two dozen gluten-free Pink Velvet and Creamsicle cupcakes.
The following is a tale of what happens when designers love to bake…
Thanks to ClearBags’ extra tall, super clear cupcake bags (with plenty of frosting clearance!) and Sweets & Treats colorful, no-fade cupcake liners, our gluten free cupcakes looked amazing!
We used printable round kraft labels to close up the bags and give the presentation a “Rustic Modern” look. At least I call it Rustic Modern… regardless of terminology, it’s the inspiration behind Studio Bionic’s branding identity.
The hot pink and white cupcake liners were absolutely gorgeous on their own. We set it up so each flavor had a unique liner design – the Creamsicles got baked in quatrefoil liners and the Pink Velvets wore a damask print. If you’ve ever baked cupcakes, you’re aware how much colored liners fade after baking.
They turn transparent.
Well… the frustration is over!
Sweets & Treats cupcake liners keep their color. Even the white stays WHITE! Yeehaw!
We wanted the two dozen to have a cohesive look even though they had different flavors, colors, and frostings. So I made little sprinkles shaped like the “Breast Cancer Awareness” ribbon. Then we took paper doilies: cut them up & glued them into wrappers; then slipped one over each cupcake’s liner. I really loved the end result of the wrappers since they let the liner underneath peek through.
The best part of the whole shindig was NCCER raised over $500 for their Making Strides Against Breast Cancer team!
Stay delicious y’all,
Make your own “Candy Hearts” Cupcake Wrappers with this handy dandy printable!
These wrappers are perfect for Valentine’s Day, anniversaries, or just a regular day that’s blessed with the power of cupcakes.
- I created the Candy Heart Cupcake Wrappers in both a PNG image file and an Adobe PDF document. Pick whichever file type you prefer – click the link to open it (note: the links open in a new tab/window).
- Save the file to your computing device. “Right click + save as” works for computers. “Long press + save as” for Android & mobile devices.
- Print on 8.5×11 inch cardstock. Be sure to enable “borderless” printing.
- Cut edges 1, 2 & 3 with regular scissors.
- Cut edge 4 with decorative scissors.
- Apply adhesive to lightened area of edge 3.
- Overlap edges 2 & 3; press together to form a circle.
- Drop in a cupcake!
//Time Saving Tip
After glueing your cupcake wrapper edges, use a wood clothespin to keep the edge together while the glue sets. This way you can keep on, keepin’ on!

P.P.S. Yes, they are gluten free. Yes, they taste better than any gluteny brownies I’ve ever experienced.
Just yesterday it seemed that I was being told: “Take your time, ma’am. It is imperative we correctly identify the culprit from this line-up. We must get riff-raff like this off the streets!”
And today, I find the Sunday edition paper screaming the headline story “Gummy Bear Mafia Apprehended!”. I guess I should feel good in helping to clean up our streets/walkways/forest trails…
In other crazy-random-happenstance news:
- California Chrome is ready for his chance at the Triple Crown this Saturday. The Belmont Stakes will be run on June 7. Post time is around 6:25pm ET – live coverage on NBC.
- Chicago’s Wizard PI, Harry Dresden, contributed in his own way to cleansing the streets. No sparkly vamps in that story!
- Out-of-the-blue, Captain Jack Harkness is grabbing headlines again with a dire warning that those pesky, drug-peddlin’ 456 freaks may be headed back to our planet. Ugh.
Come on over to the Darkside. We have cookies… and gummy bears…
P.S. I scanned the newspaper at full resolution, so y’all can click the image above to read the articles and see all the glorious details. Hint. Hint.
some many things I hate about living in Florida… except Publix Grocery Stores grocery stores. Ever since I was a tiny child, I have adored Publix. I love the old style stores, the new shiny stores, the scaled-down beach stores; the friendly employees; the 50s era weigh yourself scales; and their house-brand food offerings are simply delicious!
The Publix gods must have heard my inner desire when they created this new, limited edition ice cream flavor…
Black Swamp Raspberry Cheesecake!!
Not only is any variety of Cheesecake ice cream my favorite, but check out that stunning packaging!
And while cruising through the checkout lane, I spotted another gem of graphic design:
I really love the color choices, the unique font and the modern-with-a-nod-to-retro scheme. I’m calling both designs a WIN.
Now hand me a dang spoon!
Happy Memorial Day y’all,
